A Passion-ate Post

This was year number three, and my passion for Passion hasn't subsided. I love how fitting the name of this event is. Our passion (aka - mission statement) is to challenge and encourage young people through a spiritually, mentally, and physically tough environment to live life out of a heart over-flowing with passion for God. Being a part of the committee has been life changing for me because it has a way of keeping me emerged in that passionate calling all year long.

I have not had a lot of time to reflect after the event this year, as the wedding bells continue to dong quite loudly and persistently in my ears. However, as I catch a few moments here and there to think about it, I must conclude that this year rocked. I'm not completely sure how all the campers felt about it, but for me personally - its a big giant yes.

I never saw myself as the administrator type. In fact, I still don't. I can be a typical last born in that I lack confidence in leadership and shy away from taking full responsibility. So when it came to Passion, I was a little worried. I didn't really want to find out what me directing something would look like.

But I just have to say that I had one of the coolest experiences ever. I felt like I spent the entire Passion weekend trailing God. Literally. Things came up, decisions had to be made, people needed help, but every single time it felt like God was two steps ahead of me and had already done His thing. Sometimes it was as simple as finding a roll of duct tape in my back pack at exactly the crucial moment I needed it. Other times it was as big as redirecting a storm that supposedly had 60 mph winds and was headed for our location. To be honest, sometimes I felt a little useless as I stood around seeing God do His thing. But I needed that. Because this never was about me - its always been about Him.

This wasn't intended to be a picture blog, but hey - why not. Here are some of my favorite shots thanks to our awesome photographers Trina and Rachel. Hopefully these capture a tiny little bit of the heartthrob of Passion...

We like to break down walls at Passion and are intentional about getting all of us out of our comfort zones. What better way then to "let our hair down" and get in each others bubbles. It was either that or sleep under the stars for these ladies.

An important part of Passion is the time we take for reflection and discussion...

                                Both in community.....

                                                              .... and in solitude.

We also faced the unknown, got dirty, dealt with fears, lies, shame and other garbage...

And then we celebrated, too. New friendships, new freedoms, and  the fun of being girly and cute.

                                                               all 94 campers plus staff....

and one last parting shot - Before Passion I wasn't sure I wanted to see what me directing something would look like. Well, here it is. I think this captures my attempts at leadership pretty well. :)

Anyway, God is good and I am ever grateful to Him for His mind-blowing faithfulness to this child of His. Passion 2012 was a lovely time, and Passion 2013 is now in the works.

  1. Let me just say - that's most likely the only time you scratched your head the entire weekend...:-) That picture is a poor example of your leadership qualities at Passion. You (and God) rocked! Love you!!
